Charity Walk For Peace 2019 – Petersfield

Hundreds walked through Petersfield town centre this weekend to raise money and strengthen community ties.

East Hampshire District Council and Charity Walk for Peace (CWFP) – an Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) charity, teamed up to deliver the event on Saturday 4 May.

The free event saw hundreds set off on a circular 5km walk around Petersfield and the surrounding area, starting and finishing at Penns Place.

Money raised through donations will be shared amongst 16 local charities.

Cllr Julie Butler said:

I am delighted with the turnout today and hopefully we will have raised even more money than last year’s £10,000. We had perfect weather and it was a lovely course through the Heath, the centre of town and back out to Penns Place. The walk is growing every year and I am so proud to see what it has become. That’s a testament to the hard work of the team at EHDC and the AMEA who put so much into it this to make it a success.

On finishing the walk each participant received a medal and a curry lunch, provided by the AMEA.

Muhammad Luqman Choudhry, Regional Coordinator for CWFP,  said:

The aim of the walk is not only to raise thousands for local charities but also to strengthen community ties. The Ahmadiyya message is ‘Love for all, hatred for none’ and through events like this we can ensure we can bring communities together and break down barriers. I’m delighted with how the walk went on Saturday and it seems that the event is getting bigger and bigger and with more and more people get involved every year.

In total 16 local charities will benefit from the money raised.

The charities benefitting from the walk in 2019 are:

  • Age Concern, Cowplain
  • Age Concern, Petersfield & District
